Information

Banner of the Teutonic Order

The Teutonic Order (the German Order) receives their cross-flag from the Pope around its founding in 1190. The banner is illustrated in a manuscript from 1270-75 which deals with the Order's first grandmaster. A manuscript from the middle of the 15th century mentions that the banner in 1410 should have been used by the order's marshal under the Battle of Grunwald in present-day Poland.
