Information
Sword Xa - stud-shaped pommel
Copy of a sword found in Germany, dated 1200-1250. The shape suggests
that the sword is used both on foot and horse, and it is optimized
as a slashing and cutting weapon against chainmail.
The blade is as in previous times wide, it has a moderate peaked profile
towards a point, which is rounded and slightly pointed. From the somewhat
longer cavalry sword, the blade has adopted a small and thin fuller
that runs almost the entire length of the blade. The fuller optimizes
the sword's strength against chainmail.
The cross-guard is long and the pommel is rounded towards the grip.
The sword is used with the wrist around its axis of rotation. The
pommel's shape makes it possible to grab the two of the `dolls' with
the shield hand to use both hands.
(Oakeshott type: Blade Xa, Pommel D, Cross-guard 2).
