Information

Falchion E1 with stud-shaped pommel

Copy of falchion found at the castle of Sforzesco in Milan, Italy, dated late 13th century. The shape suggests that the cutlass weapon type is optimized for two-handed use.
The blade is single-edged; it has straight back and curved edge. From the grip and ¾ forward, the blade's profile becomes wider on the edge, on the last ¼ part of the blade it narrows back towards the point. The very large pommel compensates and maintains the point of balance of the very wide blade.
The guard is long and the pommel's shape makes it possible to grab the two of the `dolls' with the shield hand to use both hands.
(Elmslie type: Blade 1, Oakshott type: Pommel L, Guard 1).
