Information
Sword X - crescent shaped pommel
Copy of a sword found at Tissø in Denmark, dated to approx.
1000-1050. The shape suggests that it is designed for cutting when
fighting on foot against very little or no chainmail.
The blade is wide, very flat and relatively thin. It has a moderate
peaked profile against the point, which is rounded and slightly pointed.
The sword is lively in its handling properties, as it is compensated
for by a wide and distinctive fuller at almost the entire length of
the blade.
The cross-guard is very short because it is more the shield is used
more than the sword for wrestling. The pommel's crescent shape makes
it possible to deliver fast and precise cuts without the sword slipping
out of the hand.
(Oakeshott type: Blade X, Pommel B.1, Cross-guard 3).
