Chainmail coif

The chainmail coif protects the head, neck, and upper part of the shoulders it is often made with an advanced construction very close to the head. The chainmail coif is known from the 10th century and is used throughout most of the Middle Ages with a chainmail hauberk. The chainmail coif evolves over the years with a flap for mouth and nose, and in some periods it is mounted as part of the chainmail hauberk itself.
