Winged lance (AB)

Information

Winged lance

Lance / Spear with prominent wings at the bottom of the lance tip. This is to prevent the lance from penetrating too far into an enemy. The wings were used for 'fencing' with the lance as well.
Originally, the winged lance was a Franconian weapon from the 700's, but it became widespread throughout most of Europe through the early Middle Ages. The winged lance develops after 1200 to pole weapons, such as partisan and spetum.
